THE SOFT BOX - music I am digging right now

Yeah, it's summertime!  Time to break out late night disco jams, airy european pop stuff, and sweaty psychedelic rock.  Here's some albums I've been rotating lately.

  • The Shepherd's Dog
    by Iron & Wine

Come on folks.  It's Iron & Wine.  But with a looser but tighter... enigmatic feeling this time.  Some touches of African High Life music.  Some funky grooves... all beautiful.  The last song... SO BEAUTIFUL.

  • Boxer
    by The National

Like Interpol with a heart & soul.  Beautiful night time music.

  • The Cloud of Unknowing
    by James Blackshaw

Beautiful acoustic guitar instrumentals like a more modern John Fahey.  Surprisingly listenable!

  • Chromophobia
    by Gui Boratto

Minimalist techno... but also surprisingly listenable.  Beautiful stuff.

  • Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
    by Spoon

Good ol' rock n roll.  Definitely the catchiest, most listenable Spoon album to date.  But also the most artistically rewarding.

  • Too Much Guitar
    by The Reigning Sound

An older (2004) album that I just caught wind of.  Great garage rock with a slight r&b groove reminiscent of classic Exile on Main Street Rolling Stones.  Good ol' rock n roll swagger.  And "Funny Thing" is basically a great classic rock song.

  • Walls
    by Apparat

A great electronica album by sometimes Ellen Allien collaborator Apparat.  Remember glitch?  It's back!  (Not in pog form)

Yo, and that cover is SWEET.

  • God Save the Clientele
    by The Clientele

Belle & Sebastian in their latter days have gotten a bit too summery.  Thankfully, as autumn creeps in, we haveThe Clientele to fill in the gap.

  • Person Pitch
    by Panda Bear

Beach Boys + Animal Collective + a dream.  A wonderful album whose greatness creeps up on you.  The song "Bros" is a modern classic.
